Selection Criteria for International Island Games XX – Orkney 2025
Eligibility
To be eligible to compete in the Island Games for Bermuda Golf players must possess Bermudian status or
have been a resident of Bermuda for a minimum of three consecutive years.
Selection Pool
Players will be named to a provisional selection pool based on the following five categories – listed in order of importance:
- Top 3 Bermudians in World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), as of March 5 2025
- Top 4 in 2025 BGA Order of Merit (OM), as of March 5 2025
- a) Winner of 2024 Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championship
b) Winner of 2024 Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championship - Top 3 in 2024 BGA OM
- Members of 2023 NatWest International Island Games team
+ Up to two (2) nominations by BGA Board of Directors
+ Participation Requirement
In order to be considered eligible for final team selection, players in the provisional pool must meet the following participation requirements:
Resident players must:
- have competed in a minimum of five (5) BGA events since January 1 2024
- commit to supporting all BGA fundraising initiatives during the 2024-25 season.
Overseas-based players must:
- be enrolled in an institution with a recognized golf program and/or be an active member of a regional or state golf association
+ Handicap Requirement
In order to be considered eligible for final team selection, players in the provisional pool must meet the following handicap requirements:
- Players must have an up-to-date Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4 (men) or 9.4 (ladies) under the World Handicap System.
Note: A player’s scoring record may not include any scores from before March 1 2024
Requirement(s) Exception
Where it is determined that exceptional circumstances prevented a player in the provisional pool from meeting either requirement, the player will be considered eligible for final team selection.
Automatic Selection
The following eligible players, who are in good standing with the BGA and not subject to any disciplinary sanction, will earn automatic selection:
- Any player who qualifies in three (3) or more categories
- Any player in the top 750 of WAGR, as of March 5 2025
Selection Date
The final team selection will be made on Wednesday, March 5 2025, with an official announcement naming
the men’s and ladies teams to follow shortly thereafter.
Travel Dates
The golf team is scheduled to depart Bermuda on Thursday, July 10 2025 and will return to the island, at the
conclusion of the Games, on Sunday, July 20 2025.
